Do the Prep Before You Tow It Down

- Water out first. Drain the fresh tank, the water heater and the lines, and blow them through or run antifreeze. Trapped water that freezes will split a line, and it will do it somewhere you cannot see until spring.
- Fuel and batteries. Stabilize the fuel or drain it depending on how long it will sit, and take batteries out rather than leaving them connected. A battery left in a cold rig for five months is usually a battery you replace.
- Seals and covers last. Check every seam before you cover it, not after. A cover over a seam that is already open holds water against it rather than keeping water off it.
- Then drive down. One trip, on a dry day, with the work already done.

It is a steady descent to the valley floor and then flat all the way to us, with no tight turns at our end and paved lanes wide enough to swing a long trailer without a three-point turn.
