Large Storage Units in Payson, Utah

A large storage unit is what you need when the job stops being "a few boxes" and becomes "a household." At that point the questions change: not will it fit but will I be able to reach anything , how many truck loads is this , and what happens if I've underestimated.

Of the large storage units Payson Utah facilities offer, ours come in two footprints — the 10x15 from $133 and the 10x20 from $164, each available indoor, drive-up, or climate-controlled. The 10x20 is the largest unit we have — 200 square feet, about a full single-car garage. If you need more than that, there's a straightforward answer further down this page, and it's usually cheaper than you'd expect.

The step from 10x15 to 10x20 is $31 a month for a third more floor area — a bigger jump than the small sizes, and worth thinking about rather than defaulting to. The rule we'd give: if you're moving a whole house, take the 10x20. If you're clearing most of a house but the furniture is going with you, the 10x15 is usually right.

Drive-up access adds $10 and is worth taking at these sizes almost regardless of budget — you're moving a volume of heavy things that you genuinely do not want to carry down a corridor. Climate control adds $20, which matters if wood furniture, upholstery or electronics are going in for more than a season.

10x15 — 150 sq ft, the two-bedroom

A two-bedroom home's contents with room to move: two bedroom sets, a sofa and armchairs, a dining table and chairs, major appliances, a patio set, bikes, and 40-odd boxes. There's enough floor area to keep a genuine walkway down the middle, which at this size stops being a nicety and becomes the difference between a unit you can use and a wall of stuff.

It's also the most common size for contractors storing materials alongside tools, and for businesses running stock on shelving down one wall.

10x20 — 200 sq ft, the whole house

About a full single-car garage. A three-bedroom home including major appliances, or a two-bedroom home plus a vehicle, or a garage's entire contents — riding mower, workbench, tool chests, bikes, seasonal gear — with boxes stacked above.

This is the size for a full-household move, a long hold between homes, an estate being worked through, or a business that has outgrown a spare room. It typically takes two loads in a 26-foot truck to fill, which is worth knowing when you're booking the truck.

Being straight about it, and more so than most listings for large storage units Payson Utah shoppers will find: 200 square feet is the largest unit on this property. Some facilities offer a 10x30 and we don't. What we do have is two ways to go bigger that usually work out cheaper than a single oversized unit would.

Split it — one large unit plus a smaller one

A 10x20 plus a 5x10 is 250 square feet for $236 a month. It also lets you condition only what needs it: put the furniture, documents and electronics in a climate-controlled 5x10 and the tools, gear and hard goods in a standard 10x20. That combination is frequently better and cheaper than one very large conditioned unit, because you stop paying to air-condition a lawnmower.

Move the vehicles outside

This is the one most people miss. If part of what's eating your space is a boat, trailer, camper or second vehicle, an outdoor parking space starts at $65 a month — less than any enclosed unit we rent. Between those two, almost every "I need more than a 10x20" conversation ends somewhere sensible. Call and describe what you've got — our on-site manager has sized thousands of these and will tell you honestly which combination costs least.

1. Leave a center aisle. Always. In a 10x20, packing wall to wall means the back forty percent is unreachable without unloading the front. A two-foot walkway costs you far less than it saves.
2. Load furniture first, along the walls. Big flat items — mattresses, table tops, headboards, sofa sections — go on edge against the side walls. That's the frame you build everything else inside.
3. Appliances at the back, boxes at the front. Appliances are heavy, they don't get accessed, and moving them twice is miserable. Boxes are light and get rummaged through.
4. Build box walls, not box piles. Heaviest on the floor, uniform sizes, stacked square, and never more than shoulder height on either side of the aisle.
5. Keep a "first out" zone by the door. Seasonal items, tools, anything for a pending project. Reserve the first four feet for things you know you'll come back for.
6. Everything off the concrete. Pallets, 2x4s or a base layer of totes. At this volume a single seep can reach a lot of cardboard.
7. Photograph the unit when you finish loading. Two minutes, and in six months it's the only reliable record of what went in and roughly where.

If the unit is a working space rather than a store — a contractor's kit, a business inventory — put freestanding shelving down one wall and keep the aisle clear for picking. That single change is the difference between a unit you use daily and one you dread opening.
